Mark Gable: Festive Cheer Not In A Bottle

PEOPLE who are likely to be spending Christmas alone and know it will be hard, have been urged to arrange to spend time with people they like and make sure they don’t drink too much.

Mark Gable, lead singer of Aussie rock band The Choirboys and a beyondblue ambassador, has experienced depression and loneliness at Christmas.

“During the summer of 1998, after splitting up with my wife, I was in a severe state of depression towards Christmas,” Mark recalled.

“It was the first time I wouldn’t be spending Christmas with my family and I didn’t realise it would have the impact that it did.

“I was in the flat by myself and the loneliness was unbearable.”

Mark said if he was ever faced with that situation again, he would plan to be around friends and do anything other than hang around the house by himself.

beyondblue’s info line – 1300 22 4636 – is available for anyone needing information about depression, anxiety and related disorders.
