Casey Donovan To Help Blacktown Celebrate NAIDOC Week

BLACKTOWN will recognise the contributions of indigenous Australians with events for NAIDOC Week.

NAIDOC — National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee — will celebrate the theme “Change: the next step is ours”.

A spokeswoman for Blacktown Council said the theme is aimed at tackling questions of indigenous Australians taking responsibility for their future.

On Wednesday, the council will host a day of family activities at Emerton Leisure Centre between noon and 3pm.

Events and entertainment at the day will include a touch football competition, dance and art workshops, indigenous games, a jumping castle and barbecue.

There will also be a similar event featuring a performances by Australian Idol winner Casey Donovan on Saturday at Nurragingy Reserve 10am-4pm.

Blacktown mayor Allan Pendleton is supporting the NAIDOC Week events.

“NAIDOC Week is a great opportunity for the community to come together and learn about our country’s indigenous history and culture,” he said.
