FOLK by the SEA is a new event featuring the sounds of folk, world, roots, Celtic, bluegrass and gypsy music, with 20 acts over 3 days in 5 venues in the picturesque seaside town of Kiama, famous for its blowhole. Friday night, 27 September, begins with a Bush Dance with the SEASIDE BUSH ORCHESTRA, a huge band of local and visting dance musicians and an opening concert and session. Saturday is the big day with feature artists from all over Australia playing in 5 venues at the Kiama Showground from 10am to Midnight. FOLK by the SEA finishes on Sunday with a Free open air folk concert in Hindmarsh Park with a showcase of local folk music performers. There is a Finale planned with the Illawarra Folk Festival Choir and Orchestra.
The event is presented by the Illawarra Folk Club, a non-profit incorporated association with a team of volunteers including many local musicians, dancers and poets! The Club also presents the world famous Illawarra Folk Festival, with the 29th event to be held from 16-19 January 2014.
