The Up Side of Downs of Northeast Ohio Celebrates the 16th Annual Northeast Ohio Buddy Walk Saturday, August 27, 2016
Cleveland, Ohio – Saturday, August 27, 2016 – The 2016 Northeast Ohio Buddy Walk, presented by Minute Men Staffing Services, will take place on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. More than 4000 people, the largest attendance ever, will gather at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo for a wheel friendly 1-mile walk to celebrate and support individuals with Down syndrome. Day-of registration is $15 per person and begins at 8am. The Northeast Ohio Buddy Walk steps off at 9am and post event activities run till 1pm. Donate to the Buddy Walk at http://www.usod.org.
Thanks to the support of Little Caesars, our special guest, Madeline Stuart, will be on hand to celebrate the day in Northeast Ohio. Madeline is a unique 19-year-old model from Brisbane. Madeline was recently dubbed by the press as “the world’s most famous model with Down syndrome”.
This incredibly courageous, beautiful and talented young woman has had astonishing success in the short time she has been modeling, and has captured media attention both in Australia and internationally. Madeline has modelled at New York Fashion Week and many other fashion shows around the world. Madeline is now changing society’s perception of people with disabilities one photo shoot at a time!
This family friendly event offers food, beverages and entertainment for all ages. Featured activities include Club Budd, an exclusive area just for individuals with Down syndrome 16 and older; Buddy Gateway featuring apparel and gift items hand crafted by individuals with Down syndrome as well as local service providers for individuals with disabilities; and so much more!
The Northeast Ohio Buddy Walk is hosted by The Up Side of Downs of Northeast Ohio, a local non-profit organization serving more than 900 families to provide support, education and advocacy for people with Down syndrome, their families and communities throughout Northeast Ohio. Maria Sivertson, Special Events Coordinator for The Up Side of Downs shared “This year’s response to the Buddy Walk has been absolutely phenomenal, breaking participation and sponsorship records! It’s wonderful to see the support from families, friends and the community coming together to celebrate life with Down syndrome”. Proceeds from the event help provide social programming, family grants, new & expectant parent support, educational conferences, medical outreach initiatives, as well as support services for families who care for a loved one with Down syndrome.
