Entertainer Patrick James is one of Australia’s most talented performers. He showcases this versatility to perfection in the world’s most watched web series The Horizon playing quick-witted drag queen Wilma Bumhurt. Apart from her acid tongue and killer legs, it’s Wilma’s touch of wisdom, strength and vulnerability that has captured the hearts of viewers around the globe. It’s also earned her the title of “The Queen of Online Drama”, not to mention captivating and empowering the LGBTQI community and beyond. Wilma is now stepping up to the international podium when The Horizon turns its focus to Hollywood in 2016. Cobbstar Productions, in association with Frontiers Media USA, will launch an American franchise of The Horizon, with a pilot episode of a Wilma-style talk show set to be filmed in Los Angeles. Along with Patrick, Emmy Award winner Jai Rodriguez will spearhead the American production.
Patrick set his sights on performing from an early age. Growing up, he looked for any opportunity to gain insight into the craft. He attended the Australian Theatre for Young People and worked as an extra and a crew member on numerous television and film projects. At the age of 17, Patrick auditioned for the Australian Academy of Dramatic Art and became the youngest person in Australia to be accepted into a performing arts institute. He earned the label of ‘chameleon’ while starring in numerous AADA productions, including Nick Enright’s award winning play Blackrock. His star turn in The Horizon has since given him an international following as well as his first Producer credit.
